Thank you for your kind words on six years of TNHS! It means so much! I’ve enjoyed a mostly low-key weekend and am freaking out about daylight savings just a little bit (a pre 5 pm sunset is bleak!)
Once again, you can you can join me and call or write to your reps here to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
This will be the week’s only newsletter as the gift guides come out next week and I’m hard at work on it! We have some incredible guest contributors and for the first time ever, there will be a bonus gift guide for paid subscribers, sharing all the gifts from past guides that I’ve repurchased and gifted again and again. Think of it as the gift guide, all star edition.
Now, let’s dive in.
Something to cook:
With winter coming, I’m all about easy and cozy meals, like frozen ravioli and frozen broccoli. They take about the same time to cook (4 minutes) and you can get creative with sauces—Rao’s, pesto, aglio e olio.
I made a twist on breakfast tacos—egg tostadas. I crisped up tortillas, covered them with smashed avocado and topped each one with a fried egg and hot sauce. So delicious.
I purchased cottage cheese and ate it a bunch of different ways—with pita, on top of a salad, and just with a spoon. The Good Culture brand is good as is classic Breakstones and please get the full fat stuff!
Another easy meal: Annie’s Mac and Cheese with canned chickpeas and frozen broccoli. I always add chile and black pepper to the mac and cheese.
I also made a veggie fajitas situation using leftover taco seasoning I had from the Bachelorette. I sauteed mushrooms, onions, and red bell pepper with the seasoning and then separately heated and smashed some black beans with the other half of the onion. I scooped all this into tortillas and topped with shredded cheese and a yogurt/lime/hot sauce sauce (sour cream would have been better but I didn’t have any). I only wish I had made cheesy rice!
Something to order:
Dale and I had dinner at Lilia to celebrate his birthday—we also went there for his birthday in 2018 only a few months after we started dating. Love a tradition and our Lilia faves: the mafaldini, the focaccia and the gelato. I always try a different veggie and Dale loves the branzino. We always sit at the bar—you can usually snack a spot if you stop in when it opens.
Julianne and I had happy hour drinks and fries (with a dill pickle dipping sauce) at Good Thanks, which recently opened in Williamsburg. They have a nice wine by the glass section and some fun cocktails.
Dale and I tried a newish pizza spot, Aces, which is Detroit style pizza in a retro setting. I really liked the pizza and recommend trying the cheesy garlic bread and Caesar salad as well (it had good croutons which are hard to come by). Get a few sauces for dipping—the ranch was really fresh with lots of dill.
Oset, Erica and I had a lovely dinner at Silver Apricot in the West Village—it’s right across from Taylor Swift’s old house which was obviously a thrill. Everything was delicious and the wine list is very fun—my favorites were the mapo squash rice cakes and the scallion puffs. After dinner, Oset and I grabbed a drink at Via Carota, where we saw Jenna Lyons (an icon) and one more at Holiday Bar, where we got much needed fries. It was a proper night out and so much fun.
