As you read this, I’m on a plane to LA with Dale! We’re spending time on the West Coast before something very exciting happens at the end of the month (more on that next week).
Last week was busy, as you’ll read below, and I tried to lean into flexibility, adjusting my hours to squeeze in a pre trip pedicure with a friend. I went to a concert, walked all around Brooklyn, and tried to soak it all in. Erica is about to go on maternity leave and I’m so excited to meet her baby in a few weeks. To celebrate and send her off, we’re doing a sale on Meal Prep Made Simple. Use code OHBABY to save a few dollars and get your meals in order! The sale ends tomorrow and meal prep is so helpful if you’re prepping for new parents, busy people, or just getting comfortable in the kitchen.
On Thursday, paid subscribers will get my number one travel tip that I never regret following (and very much regret ignoring).
Now, let’s dive in.
Something to cook:
I tried Omsom’s new soy garlic noodles for a simple lunch and they were really good. I can’t wait to try the other flavors. I served them with broccoli (boiled in the water with the noodles), and a fried egg on top.
A red bell pepper, nicely sliced up, is a perfect snack.
A bunch of us had dinner on Julianne’s roof on Friday and I brought chips and salsa for a little pre dinner snack. I really like this salsa and I got the everything but elote chips from Trader Joe’s along with regular chips.
I had the leftover salsa with rice and black beans for a delicious breakfast, topped with a fried egg and avocado.
After we ate tacos on the roof, we had peanut butter nutella blondies that Rose made. They were so good and expertly swirled.
My mom requested chocolate for her Mother’s Day dessert and Leah and Erika made these brownie cups. They were great with vanilla and coffee chip ice cream from Eddie’s.
Something to order:
Julia and I were among the oldest people at the Sabrina Carpenter show at Terminal 5, which is a pain to get to. But, we found a great spot for dinner that I will go back to before any shows! The Jin has delicious Korean food (I got the kimchi fried rice and Julia got tteokbokki with chicken katsu). We were both bummed we could not bring our leftovers to the concert. We also grabbed a drink at The Waylon, a saloon of sorts that also had live music. Because of the clear bag policy, we both wound up wearing stuff with pockets and felt so free all night without bags. Is this how men feel all the time?
Isa and I tried to check out a new wine bar that was very much struggling and wound up pivoting to dinner at Terre, a Park Slope Italian spot with a gorgeous backyard and natural wine list. We had orange wine, artichoke crostini, fusili with pesto and cacio e pepe.
Melissa and I grabbed coffee at Acre in Greenpoint which has a great backyard and tables where you can work during the week.
Leah and I had lunch at Bakeri (the Greenpoint location has lots of seating, indooor and outdoor). The feta squash salad is really good and you can’t go wrong with any of their pastries.
Dale and I tried the green chile burritos from Santa Fe, a New Mexican spot in Williamsburg. It’s takeout only and the potato burritos were very good. They also have surprisingly good fries.
Tilden and I grabbed a snack at 7 Grain Army and the blueberry oat muffin was so good. It has a thick layer of jam in the middle which something more muffins should have.
