Hi friends,
Rabbit, rabbit! Sing this subject line to the tune of “Snow on the beach.” It’s July or H2/Q3 in the corporate gals call it. January feels so far behind us and the fall feels far away as these summer days stretch out languidly. I took it very easy this weekend, which felt really good. Dale was out of town so I went on a solo museum date, watched a cult classic movie with Julia, did some yoga, and watched most of season 2 of the Traitors (so good, I had been sleeping on it, but it’s so entertaining and there is a challenge where all the players have to do bird calls that had me cracking up). DM me if you’d like to discuss it!
This is the only newsletter of the week because there’s a holiday. I hope the week includes some rest and fun.
Now, let’s dive in.
Something to cook:
In annoying but true facts, getting groceries over the weekend really does help you eat better during the week. I made lots of salads with romaine, chickpeas, calabrian chilies, olives, sungold tomatoes, and feta (a delicious combo for lunch) for office lunches.
I made a veggie burger with a side of sungold tomato toast with mayo (tomato toast season is here and thank goodness).
Also on the menu: fried eggs with feta and sungold tomatoes, more smoothies, and lots of coffee at home (my parents went to the East Fork seconds sales and I now have the cutest new mug)
This week, I got my first nectarines of the season and plan to roast some baby potatoes—I love a crispy potato. While I have the oven on, I want to make some chickpeas with feta.
Something to order:
Leah and I finally caught the happy hour at Pomp & Circumstance: it’s a spritz or glass of wine with a freshly baked flatbread and dip of your choice for $18 before 6:30. It’s a very small restaurant so get there early or make a res. We walked in on a Monday and had hummus, labneh, fresh bread (they have rye and sesame pitas), and snap pea salad. I’d def go back, especially for happy hour.
Tilden and I had a lowkey dinner at her place with takeout from Wei’s—I like that they have tofu versions of all the classics like general tso’s and kung pao. My favorite thing is the garlic green beans though.
Julia and I both had punch cards to redeem at Alita so we took a pre work coffee walk. I love a free coffee and it’s always an iced americano summer.
On Friday, Julia and I split an eggplant parm from Anthony and Sons and watched But I’m A Cheerleader, a cult classic (watch it and then watch MUNA’s Silk Chiffon video which is based on it). We went to an outdoor screening and then realized it was on concrete and decided to watch on my couch instead.
You have 28 days left to see the Harlem Renaissance exhibit at the Met, which is fantastic. Buy a ticket online to skip the lines (NY residents can pay what you wish) and stop on the rooftop after for people watching and a snack (randomly, they had really good thick housemade potato chips).
Dale went to the Hamptons with friends and brought back the most delicious croissant from Carissa’s—it was delicious even a few hours old. He said the fancy grocery stores were a real highlight of the trip.
