I remember the first time my sister ate an ice cream cone, mostly because it got all over her. I don’t remember the time I ate a red popsicle at the Bronx Zoo and made such a mess that I had to go home wearing only a diaper, but my parents do (and love to tell the story). Special shoutout to Royal Treat in Delaware (which just closed sadly), Han’s in Orange County, Eddie’s in Forest Hills, trucks everywhere, and Screen Door in Greenpoint.
Corn on the cob is really only good in the summer and it’s another ritual food. I remember being assigned shucking the corn outside and getting silk everywhere. Fresh corn with butter and salt is perfection.
