Hi friends,
The sun is setting earlier (no more post 7 pm sunsets until March, I’m devastated to report), but I’m still wearing jean shorts. September is a sweet spot in so many ways and next week is Rosh Hashanah, a real signal of change for so many. Giselle hosted a clothing swap this weekend and I got rid of three big bags worth of stuff, a lot of it with emotional baggage. I’m so happy my items are going to new homes and I returned home with new to me sweaters, a pair of jeans, and dress for a wedding next month. I’ve been paying extra attention to what’s in my space this year and it feels good to get rid of things and welcome in new ones. She did the swap show and tell style, which was fun. I love hearing the story behind each item—some purchases really have us thinking we’ll be a whole different person with them. But wherever you go, there you are.
I’m not doing the
On Thursday, I’m sharing my fall wishlist, featuring recipes, experiences, and items I’m excited for.
Now, let’s dive in.
Something to cook:
I relied on leftovers for lunches this week (the tomato and corn pasta I made last week keeps well).
We made some doctored up Annie’s Mac and Cheese with some dijon to enhance the suace and black pepper for a nod to cacio e pepe.
Jared made me pasta puttanesca, which was very tasty. Any excuse to eat olives for dinner!
Next week, I’m making
fig challah for our family Rosh Hashanah celebration. I look forward to making it all year even though it’s a process.Something to order:
After watching Hedda (go see it next month), there was a reception at Acadia, which has great labneh and other dips. I love a dip spread alongside a cheese plate and it was wonderful to see Teal and Nicholas.
We had Westville in the office and I was reminded of how good their kale salad is, such a dependable spot for when you need some veggies.
Amy and I had our regular bivalves and yap dinner at Cervo’s, where we were able to walk in on a Friday night. We got the mussels escabeche, clams in white wine, eggplant, an escarole salad and fries with aioli, a perfect meal. It was great to catch up over such delicious bites
On Saturday, Alicia and I went to yoga and then got boba at Bites & Sips (the mochi doughnuts also looked very good) and sat in Maria Hernandez park. When it’s 70 degrees, that’s really the best activity.
Because Jared is equally obsessed with oysters, we went back to Stowaway on Saturday night. We started with a dozen (their happy hour goes till 7) and also had the fried zucchini, which comes with a lemony dipping sauce. The owners are Southern, so their barbecue options are legit too.
At Giselle’s swap, someone brought one of the best black and white cookies I’ve ever had, from Empire Bakery. They’re cakey cookies and had a great texture.

Gabby and Julia put me on to Audrey Hobert (stream Who’s the Clown) and Every Single Album has the full breakdown we need. The subject line is one of her lyrics.

My new Material Kitchen cutting board arrived and I took it for a spin last night. I really like the texture and size and the fact that it’s fully plastic free. ABIGAIL20 gets you 20% off.

Big news for my fellow Burlap & Barrel fans, their pumpkin spice is here! This year’s blend has pepitas in it and I am so excited to try it. I will be making a batch of pumpkin cardamom muffins once it arrives!
Thanks so much for being here! Have a good week!

The mochi donuts at bites& sips are really good! I think they’re the perfect texture - chewy, but not gummy.
Also, enquiring minds want to know: does the empire cake black and white have hints of lemon or no? Hidden lemon flavoring in black and whites is my nemesis.
Was totally unaware of Julia Roberts’s history!!
