Hi friends,

It’s another year around the sun for This Needs Hot Sauce! I sent out the first issue on Tinyletter on October 29, 2017. In writing this, I found out that Tinyletter was shut down earlier this year :( The subject line was “Your Party Needs Mixed Nuts (And Other Food Thoughts).” I used this title convention for a few months and eventually gave up on it (you’re welcome). It included a recipe for collard greens from Feed the Resistance, restaurant recs for Mexico City, where I had recently been for Isa’s wedding, and of course, Brooklyn. I observed that Tribeca kids are fancy and encouraged readers to order Gin and Sonics (a gin and tonic with half soda, half tonic). It didn’t quite catch on, but my friends and I still order them from time to time—they are very good and the perfect level of sweetness. I also have made Union Square Cafe’s Bar Nuts countless times for parties, they’re a staple at Latkes and Vodkas. Another sign of the era is this line, “I had soup for lunch for the first time this week and have been breaking out my best vests.” I can picture the vests I owned at the time (one was faux fur and one was a houndstooth) and the matte liquid lipstick I wore. Nostalgia is beautiful and hard.

I walked through the Greenmarket as often as I could in the early days to find IG story backgrounds
