One of the nicest thing you can do for someone is invite them into your home. It could be for a meal or a weekend or something in between. It represents hospitality in the ancient sense, mi casa es tu casa, the old bread and salt. Providing people with a safe haven to rest, eat, relax, and connect is a true gift and guests (good guests at least) are there to spend time with you, not judge if your shelf is dusty. My shelves are always a little dusty but it’s okay, right?
Bringing a hostess gift is a token of appreciation and a chance to express your gratitude. The safest option is something that won’t take up space so many of these are consumable. My work wife Erica (have you heard? We wrote an ebook!) is a hostess gift/entertaining wiz and has some more ideas on TikTok!
I’d love to hear your picks! And if you like shopping, check out last year’s gift guide—this year’s is well underway!
Fancy Condiments/Treats: This is one of my favorite gift categories because it’s something you wouldn’t normally get for yourself and a chance to check out a new brand. Make sure you’re aware of food allergies and then shop away. Fancy condiments (whether purchased online or at a local shop) usually have great packaging so they need minimal wrapping. If you have storage space, I would order a few of these and keep them on hand for gifting. Some favorites: Red Clay Hot Honey and Hot Sauce (Abigail20 gets you 20% off), Brightland Champagne Vinegar, Spring & Mulberry Chocolates, Burlap & Barrel Spice Sets.
