Hi friends,
I love three day weekends—the extra day makes a huge difference when it comes to getting things done and getting time to relax, which is much needed. I underestimated how tired I would be after Sri Lanka. On the way there, the adrenaline and overnight layover helped us hit the ground running, but even after more than a week at home, I still find myself needing extra rest. Last Wednesday, I took some Moon Juice Magnesium an hour before bedtime and slept like a rock, which was much needed.
I hope you’re managing to get some rest in the midst of the constant horrible news. 5 calls is a great app to stay in touch with your reps and donating to orgs working on causes you care about is more important than ever, as many are losing federal funding.
Two things are coming up: first, I wrote my travel recap for Sri Lanka (my jetlag got the better of me last week, apologies for the delay). Next, my dad got my grandma’s mandelbrot recipe when he visited her a few weeks ago and is sharing it with me later today. I will be sharing it soon here, it’s a family favorite.
Now, let’s dive in.
Something to cook:
Emma organized a grain bowl day at the office, which was so smart. People brought different greens, grains, and toppings which made a few days of lunches. Packing lunch is always such a thing but it’s much easier to prepare one or two components and share the work.
After making nachos for the Super Bowl, I had lots of leftover toppings. I took inspiration from
Melty Mexican Cauliflower in her cookbook and roasted a head of cauliflower with some shredded cheese (add it at the end so it doesn’t burn). I heated, seasoned, and smashed some beans and made a bowl with the cauliflower, beans, salsa, sour cream, pickled jalapeños, cilantro and lime. It was a delicious dinner and reminded me that nacho toppings make anything taste betterI had a real pesto moment last winter and found some in the freezer for an easy dinner on Sunday. I love the shape of this pasta, the curls are very cheerful somehow. I add nutritional yeast to my pasta with pesto because us girlies can always use more Vitamin B12.
My past self bought sourdough bread at Lighthouse and froze it so that Dale and I could have soft scrambled eggs and toast this morning.
Something to order:
Isetta partnered with Foxglove to host a happy hour at Elvis and it was so great to see so many friends, old and new. Elvis is a really cute space and the Foxglove team brought a cake from New June Bakery in Philly—it was stunning and got rave reviews for taste.
We had a fun in person meeting with the Ghia team and Cam brought treats from Librae Bakery. The feta biscuit and sesame cookie were really good, I want to go try more
Dale and I had a lowkey Valentine’s Day (our main celebration was Saturday) with heart shaped Williamsburg Pizza, wine and chocolate. We watched the Sopranos and Traitors, which I’m obsessed with.
For Valentine’s Day, we went to Berenjak, a Persian restaurant in London that recently started a residency at Dumbo House. The food was really good and they have lovely wines from Georgia. Get the fried potatoes, the house rice and the eggplant split pea stew. Dale recommends the chicken kabab.
Tilden and I journeyed through the rain on Sunday for brunch at Winona’s. We split something sweet, the churro french toast with lime zest, and something savory, the Winona, which included potatoes, eggs and an arugula salad. A salad at brunch is so nice to cut through the richness. And the savory portion came with ketchup, hot sauce, and aioli, everything you need. I want to go back from dinner.
Something to read:
’s transparency on what it takes to be on YouTube is so valuable. Her vidoes are great and they feel premium but the economics are so so hard. Rooting for her in her next chapter!I’ve loved Gabby Windey since the Bachelor and am obsessed with her on Traitors.
I have to link to a cute photoshoot (and interview) with Dylan Efron
