Can you believe it’s only Tuesday? I’m writing to you from the Wing, which is still open. My roommate’s office is closed, but Dale’s is open. I’m stopping at my grocery store on the way home and also want to stock up on things like chapstick and lotion so I don’t have to go to a pharmacy soon.
What are you cooking/snacking on if you’re working from home? Are you dining out to support restaurants or canceling plans?
No wrong answers, no judgments, I just wanted to give us all a space to talk.
My office is closing indefinitely this week and it's definitely going to be strange. I went to the grocery store today to stock up because if I'm home all week I'll need to cook more! It seemed normal and things were in stock which was good. I have some pretty big restaurant plans for later in the month that I will definitely be keeping because they were hard reservations to get and I'll need something to look forward to! Also thinking about going to Chinatown this weekend to support businesses there.
I hope you can keep those reservations, restaurants are really struggling! My coworking space said one of the reasons it wants to stay open is for the hourly workers (there's a cafe inside). And what are you planning to make for wfh lunches?
My normal work lunches are dinner leftovers so I'll probably keep doing that! Or maybe I'll cook for lunch and have leftovers for dinner... either way, I made the NYT cooking Thai chicken meatball soup a few weeks ago and can't stop thinking about it so I think there are a lot of batches of that in my future!
This has....obviously been very much on my mind lol. I froze a big batch of taco soup and a bunch of salmon last week for dinners, and I'm planning on making some kind of big grain salad each week for work-from-home lunches. My supply of snacks and chocolate is wearing thin, and I'll probably need to make an emergency trip to TJ's next week for more dark choco PB cups. I will definitely still keep eating out as restaurants! Gotta support my faves, and tbh I just need to leave the apartment after a full day of working in it.
totally agree about needing to leave the house! since I've been freelance, I've been fairly aggressive about making evening plans and hopefully, most of them don't get canceled. It helps a lot to have something to look forward to at the end of the day.
I've been trying to find a balance, especially with my partner who is more cautious than I. I don't eat out that much anyway and like I am still mostly out and about just washing my hands a ton. But my partner was actively saying they'd like to eat out less. I think I'll still go out with friends if it comes up but I am very much playing it by ear.
That seems reasonable! I've still been eating out, but said no to a random media dinner tonight, it didn't seem necessary to travel and eat with strangers. What city are you in if you don't mind sharing?
I'm in NYC! I am definitely working it out, as like I was in Jersey for a woman's soccer game this weekend which was great but honestly I think I would've decided to stay home just cause we did path and the the packed stadium.

That soup sounds like a winner! So good to have stuff in the freezer!

that sounds fun but I get it! I've been taking the subway when needed but it's still stressful to be in huge groups/crowds rn.
