Hi friends,
The September energy continues to flow and I’m trying to embrace the movement while still making time for stillness. If you joined me and deleted IG from your phone, let me know how it went! I’m still a little tired from the past week but we will be okay!
On Thursday, I’m writing about what I’m looking forward to in the fall, because by next Monday, it will be fall! That’s wild to me.
Something to cook:
I made veggie peanut noodles from Caroline Chambers’ book, a very solid lunch and filling thanks to the edamame.
I am back on my breakfast taco game, which is a great place to be. I typically work from home on Fridays and love making breakfast tacos then.
I’ve had my moments with chia pudding but I often find a little gloopy. I discovered a method I do like by accidentally—add chia seeds to yogurt instead of milk. It thickens faster (I ate mine about an hour after making it) and the texture is better to me. I did whole milk yogurt, a scoop of chia seeds, frozen berries, a little cinnamon and some pistachios on top. It was delicious and easy to bring to work in a jar.
I also made mushroom black bean tacos for dinner one night—I let the mushrooms get nice and crispy in a cast iron skillet before adding canned beans and lots of spices. Serve on charred tortillas with some shredded cheese (I like Tillamook) and hot sauce.
I also made another scallion pancake wrap and this time I cooked my eggs with tomatoes, in a nod to the classic Chinese tomato egg dish. It was so good.
For lunch this week, I made a farro snap pea salad with chickpeas, pistachios and a lemon vinaigrette. No recipe, just a hodge podge of pantry stuff, like the best lunches.
Something to order:
We had the whole Isetta crew in town, which was so much fun! We kicked off the week with a Simply Nova bagel spread, always a treat.
Then we had a few very fun client events: SummerFall Sake launched in New York at Ray’s Bar. Ray’s serves their fries with Zab’s hot sauce, which I love and the sake spritzes were delicious.
I also loved seeing so many internet friends at Superbueno with Almave. The food at Superbueno is really good (get the mushroom tacos) and the Almave cucumber cocktail was super refreshing.
After the event, Gabby, Cristina, Amy and I went to Au Za’atar. I hadn’t been in a while and it was still so good—we split a bunch of dips (get the labneh), salad and a kebab for them and the hot sauce is so good
We celebrated James’ birthday at H&H Reserve, which is in the old Sugarburg space. They have negronis and St. Agrestis spritzes on tap and Julia made a salted caramel apple pie! Stunning.
Dale and I had a cozy night with Williamsburg Pizza watching Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, I don’t think I can watch the whole thing but it was something.
Isa, Leslie, and I had a park hang (I went to Prospect Park and did get lost, as always) and Isa brought us sandwiches from Russo’s—we split one with broccoli rabe and one with eggplant.
We ended the weekend at Bamonte’s with Alyssa and Brandon, it was their first visit and an honor to join them. Get the penne alla vodka, you can ask for a vegetarian version. We also enjoyed the eggplant rollatini, the ravioli, and a fried zucchini appetizer. It’s always an experience there and was so nice to end the weekend laughing with friends instead of having the sunday scaries.
