A summer bucket list spools out of me with very little effort (and I did a pretty good job with this year’s). It’s easy to make plans in the sun dappled city, when the days are endless and the beaches and rooftops are calling. For a few reasons, this summer was excellent, an all-timer, even. And it set the bar high for fall, which especially last year, was really hard. Fall is a middle ground: at the start, it carries the heat of summer, the spontaneity and the sun. But quickly, the sun starts setting and the mood shifts. Work gets busier, things get darker and colder and it’s time to get cozy.

This is my first fall bucket list and I’m creating it to combat my fall dread, which is borne from a wee bit of seasonal affective disorder and a love of sunlight. I’m also raising the bar from the past few falls. I prefer bucket lists to strict goals: we’ll get to what we get to but they’re meant to take some time.

Incredible Amtrak views

I’d love to know what you’re planning for the fall!

  • Listen to the Life of a Showgirl (and Red, a perfect fall album)

  • Bake pumpkin bread & pumpkin muffins

  • Go apple picking and make apple crisp // type up my apple crisp recipe

  • Make

    deb perelman
    squash toasts

  • Walk from the top of Manhattan to the bottom—

    Eden
is organizing a walk that I’ll be out of town for but I want to do it either way!

  • Make at least one more trip to the Screen Door before it closes for the season

  • Have a cozy weekend down the shore with my besties

  • Get upstate, even if it’s just for a day, to see the foliage and get some fancy coffee and pastries

  • Start taking vitamin d supplements after daylight savings

  • Upgrade my socks so I’m not running out of my good socks between laundry (I like these Gap ones and Bombas of course, which also makes good bralettes).

    It’s decorative gourd season!
