Picture this: you’re in Paris. It’s May and it’s sunny but not too hot. You slept on the plane so the jetlag isn’t too bad. You wake up at an Airbnb in the Marais and you stroll down to a nearby cafe for breakfast. The croissant is flakey, the cappuccino is foamy, and the baguette has the perfect crust. You slather the baguette in butter & jam, put on your sunglasses and settle in for a relaxed morning. This is what dreams are made of. It’s just you, a book, and the sights and sounds of a Parisian street. Then you open the book and you absolutely hate it.
This happened to me in May 2019 and I still think about it (it’s actually happened several times). I’ll tell you what book it was later on, but as summer travel really kicks in, I wanted to save you from the same fate with a very easy tip.
