Hi friends,
Per our tradition, we had a few people over to watch the Super Bowl which was quite entertaining. Usher absolutely nailed the halftime show—the guests, the rollerblading, the shirt removal. We have new Beyonce music! And of course, I’m happy for Travis and Taylor.
February is as predicted, flying by, it’s somehow nearly halfway over and next weekend is a long one. Let’s dive in.
Something to Cook:
Julia and I made our weekly Omsom rice bowl with yuzu miso glaze and all the toppings, a treasured ritual. Also, this season of the Bachelor is SO good.
I also made more veggie burger wraps with lettuce, shredded cheese, and sriracha mayo. I’ve been buying storebought veggie burgers for convenience but the homemade ones are better. Also, I got a loaf of sourdough, sliced and froze it. Having good toast at the ready makes meals much easier.
Tilden and I cooked on Wednesday and we made arepas with carrot tinga (carrots simmered with chipotle, spices, and bell pepper, black beans, and halloumi with a bit of honey. To top it all off, spicy green sauce. We paired this delicious meal with Clementine Bakery cupcakes and the Grey’s Anatomy pilot (I’m spreading chaos).
I was out of nutritional yeast for too long but have finally restocked and celebrated with popcorn with ghee, salt and nutritional yeast. Delicious.
For the Superbowl, Julia made blondies, I made nachos (basically the same as last year with Zack’s Mighty chips (client). I smashed and seasoned the beans before adding them and was rewarded with perfectly ripe avocados. Hillary baked brie with jam, Julia made blondies, Dale was on wing duty (Old Town is his wing source), and Leah brought drinks—we made Venetian spritzes.
Something to order:
Devinne and I caught up at Clementine on a sunny day. Their covered seating is all weather friendly and we split a strawberry scone and a chocolate croissant, which felt like a perfect Valentine’s Day treat.
Thingtesting hosted a fun happy hour at Ray’s in Greenpoint. It was fun to meet other people in the CPG space and Ray’s had very tasty drinks and nachos.
Leslie and I had a really nice catchup at Swell Dive, which pivoted to a Filipino menu for snacks.
