We’ve sprung forward and it messed with me a bit. I had a pretty massive to do list for Sunday and one less hour to get it done. I somehow did most of it including packing in advance for a trip (please clap). Tomorrow I head to California for Expo West so this is the only newsletter of the week! Please say hi if you’ll be there and I’ll share a recap next week. I spent the weekend, packing, doing laundry, and watching One Day (please slide into my DMs to discuss). I’m a sucker for shows set in the UK and at college, well, uni, and it was a worthwhile way to spend a mostly rainy weekend.
Now, let’s dive in.
Something to cook:
Leah and I cooked dinner together and made pasta with vodka sauce (with coconut milk). It was perfect for a chilly day. We also made a salad. Vodka sauce is pretty quick and catching up while whisking until the sauce thickens is pretty ideal. Leah has really cute bowls from Jono Pandolfi
I made tofu rice bowls and took the leftovers for lunch a few times. I fried tofu and added a soy glaze at the end with garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, maple syrup, and sesame oil. Alongside, I made roasted broccoli with yuzu seasoning. And for sauces: sriracha mayo and zhong sauce.
Julia got some really good news so I had to make brownies to celebrate. I swear by Ghirardelli box mix with extra chocolate chips and flakey salt. And of course, vanilla ice cream.
Something to order:
I had some good takeout this week from Sage, Tacombi and Ako, old faithfuls that never let me down. The black bean tostada from Tacombi is a standout and their takeout packaging is so good.
Dale and I tried Taqueria Ramirez in Greenpoint on Friday. The line was long (but we missed the worst of it) but the tacos were really good—the menu is simple an vegetarian option is nopales. They have bowls of salsa for topping and the salsa verde is incredible. There’s limited seating inside and outside and it’s all meant to be eaten there (they don’t do to-go). It’s worth a visit ideally during off peak hours (they open at noon so maybe go for lunch?).
Julianne hosted a belated birthday party for Ian and Matt which was also a perfect excuse to sample Fortunato’s new pistachio cheesecake, which is excellent, like all their cheesecakes. Pistachio is a tough flavor to get right but they really do. At the party, a few people read excerpts of lists from their notes app, present and past, which range from the mundane to the aspirational and everything in between. It’s a small thing but it felt really good to know that everyone also struggles to get everything done.

I also tried Taqueria Ramirez for the first time last week and loved it! I went there at 5:30 on a Friday and there were only 2 other small groups inside so I got a seat. Any other time I've seen long lines so maybe I got lucky, but I think finding an off-peak time is key.
