I’m wrote this after a pretty exhausting travel day so we kept it simple! Dale’s birthday is today and I’m excited to celebrate him this week. We spent the weekend in Palm Beach with his aunt for a wedding and now we’re back to the rain!
I’m so moved by all the protests this weekend calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and horrified by the death toll—you can join me and call or write to your reps here.
This week marks six years of This Needs Hot Sauce (!) and on Thursday, I’ll share what’s kept me going with writing for that long—and the tips I always give to someone who wants to start a newsletter.
Let’s dive in.
Something to cook:
Baby carrots weird me out—they’re so often slimy. This week, I took a cue from Ivy and bought regular carrots to bring to work with some hummus. It took a few extra minutes to peel and chop them but they taste SO much better.
I brought an office lunch classic: rice and beans, to work, as well as leftover pasta with Rao’s sauce with roasted broccoli.
I was craving breakfast for dinner after writing about eggs last week and I made a pita sandwich with scrambled eggs, pesto, avocado and white cheddar. Plus, Shaquanda Hot Sauce, a perennial favorite.
Something to order:
Bettina and I tried out new bakery/shop A&C Super and they make a pretty good croissants and have a nice little yard to eat in. They also make bread and ice cream and sell the good French butter. It’s closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays so plan accordingly.
A few of us got after work drinks at Dolly’s, which has a Dolly Parton themed bathroom that is worth a visit! They also have a nice happy hour and outdoor seating.
Melissa and I got coffee and pastries at K’Far—their apple babka bun and squash boreka are the perfect seasonal treats.
I saw the Eras Tour Movie (and got the souvenir popcorn bucket) with Julianne, Tilden, and Leah. We got Thai food at Klong and then settled in for the show—I loved it (obviously) and have been listening to 1989 (Taylor’s Version) all weekend.
In Palm Beach, Dale and I had dinner at Bice in the beautiful courtyard. The rigatoni alla norma was excellent as were the spritzes and people watching.
At our hotel, I also had my girl dinner of choice—a Caesar salad and fries (ask for both ketchup and mayo, you deserve it).
I also visited a Publix for the first time which was very exciting. It was extremely air conditioned as was everything in Florida but I was impressed with the selection!
